Bolivia’s foreign minister has blamed the recent floods on climate change, ABC News reported this week.

Bolivia is probably a country that cannot do that much about the climate change. The largest CO2 producers in the countries are probably the cars – but even these rarely travel any long distances.

Now they are looking to the rest of the World to help them Рis the el ni̱o/la ni̱a condition a result of climate change? Do we all now have a moral responsibility to help countries affected?

I think we should be looking at two different things – help for situations like this, and long-term action.

I don’t remember any rain during my time in Bolivia.  It was cold at times, but always dry.

That is definitely not the case at the moment.  There are reports of 45 people killed in flooding across much of the country, with diseases compounding the problems.

What I did do was to fly with a Beoing 727 operated by Lloyd Aereo Boliviano – and one of these has crashed in a swamp – swollen by the rains – after diverting to avoid bad weather.

Whilst the technology is wildly different, it does sound like a similar landing that the 777 had at London’s Heathrow airport the other day – which by co-incidence is the type of aircraft that I fly back from Bolivia in!
